Unsurprisingly, one watch to hold the eye hostage this year comes from Audemars Piguet’s striking all-oval collection, the Millenary. This member of watchmaking’s Holy Trinity offers no compromises for women with its Millenary Chalcedony Tourbillon watch. Unlike Cartier’s contemporary take on the skeleton watch, this one leans towards classicism, though Audemars Piguet does choose to incorporate its own unique touch with the chalcedony mainplate (the blue element seen in the pictures).

With this move, the jewel has become the movement, and vice versa, without the vulgarity of drowning the whole piece in precious stones. Though not unique, the presence of this mineral in the movement serves as a subtle counterweight to the 395 diamonds on the case. A watch such as this one speaks highly of the brand’s core competencies in both haute horlogerie and haute joaillerie and uses the generous real estate of the 45mmX40mm case to great effect.
